When in 1999, the federal government under president OLUESGUN OBASANJO awarded the contract for the construction of an express way of 8 lanes from Ibadan through Oyo and Ogbomosho to llorin, the people were highly delighted hoping that in no distance time the project will be completed for use. However to the surprise of all Nigerians the phase one of the road which is less than 1,000 kilometer has just been commission on July 5, 2013 with just 4 lanes after 14 year.
The road is a major road that links the northern and western part of the country. The goods coming to the west from the north are always transported with giant sized trailer through the road; it was once rated as second busiest road in the country.

Flagging off the road project in 2001 in Ojoo, Ibadan, Oyo state the former president said, I want to thank past government of being kind enough to leave the work where I left it 21 year ago for me to pick it up again. I want to assure the governor of Oyo and Kwara state that the work will be completed in the shortest possible time and we will be able to move in 8 lanes express way between Ibadan and llorin. That promise remains largely unfulfilled even with the commissioning of the road on 5, July 2013 with just 4 lanes.

As at 2001, the federal government had awarded two section of the road, the project had been divided into 3 sections to be given to 3 reputation construction firm. The first section that take off from Ojoo in Ibadan and terminated at lrepo market in Oyo town is approximately 44.5 kilometers, this section of the road was given to PW engineering company for 14 .9 billion naira for the construction of 8 lane express way between Ibadan and Oyo and the construction company was also given 36 month to complete and hand over the road to the federal government. It is fourteen year now, it is only a stretch of about 40 kilometer that has been constructed on this high way with just 4 lanes.
The agreement of the project stated that the road will be constructed on 8 lanes and will also have 3 flyovers and inter change in Ojoo to solve the traffic grid lock on the portion of the road, that’s the reasons it was awarded with that huge amount of money 14 .9 billion naira. Today what we see is just 4 lanes and one flyover in Akinyele area of the road.

The question now is that, why did the construction firm PW engineering company constructed 4 lanes instead of 8 lanes as agreed and sign with federal government? What happen to the two other flyovers? Why did the company constructed round about instead of flyovers as signed in the agreement in Ojoo axis of the road?
CEYISED and other stakeholder are willing and ready to find out more to ascertain what has gone wrong and the level of corruption involve in the construction of this road while relying on the freedom of information act in order to get information as to what went wrong after 14 years of award of contract.
