LIST OF CORPS MEMBERS WHO HAVE REDEEMED WAR AGAINST POVERTY (WAP) LOAN

War Against Poverty (WAP) is an initiative of the National Youth Service Corp in Collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (OSSAP-MDGs). The programme is an economic empowerment programme geared toward addressing MDG 1 and targets Corps members.

Selected Corps members are trained in two areas of agro-enterprises and empower them with interest free loans to generate employment, eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.  The training also covers entrepreneurship.

The areas of agro-business include banana/plantain sucker multiplication, fish farming, animal husbandry, poultry production, grass-cutter rearing, snailery, and bee keeping.

The programme which was launched on October, 2009 is open to all serving Corps members. Prospective beneficiaries are chosen based on the selection criteria. Applicants are to obtain a Form of Intent from the WAP Schedule officers or from the NYSC official website; www.nysccds.org fill the form and submit either through the schedule officer or to the email address on the form. The loan facility ranges from ₦200,000 to ₦300,000 (depending on enterprise) with zero per cent (0 %) interest charge having a repayment period of 30 months with first 6 months of moratorium.

The loan package operates in a revolving manner. The loan facilities that fall due and collected are extended to those on the waiting list of loan disbursement who have been trained, submitted their MOU and bank account. Those who collected the loan facility invest and pay back through e-payment has to send evidence of repayment to the programme management. On confirmation, the certificate of National Service that was held in trust is returned to them.

A lot of beneficiaries have paid back the loan and collected their certificate while still reaping the benefits of their investment.

Herewith are some of those who have redeemed their loan;
